The application window for the University of the People (UoPeople) scholarship programme is now open, inviting educators worldwide to apply for support in pursuing a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree and take the next step in their professional learning journey.
First established in 2018, the collaboration between the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the University of the People reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to high quality education and empowering communities worldwide. In 2020, this partnership marked a major milestone with the launch of its first scholarship cohort, enabling educators to pursue a Master of Education degree.
The initiative has since awarded more than 500 scholarships to educators across the world, with more than 240 successfully completing their degree on their journey to strengthening teaching, learning, and leadership within their schools and communities. A number of these alumni have shared positive reflections on their experiences throughout the programme, and the impact it has had since receiving their qualification.
“This opportunity meant more than earning a degree – it meant access, hope, and responsibility,” said Forbewing Kevin Blaise, from Cameroon. “The programme allowed me to pursue my M.Ed. while continuing to teach and support my school community. Learning in a global classroom expanded my perspective and empowered me to create lasting impact for my students, colleagues, and community.”
“The scholarship supported me through financial hardship, enabling me to complete my degree,” said Bianca Nunes of Brazil. “I grew professionally and became an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) coordinator, committed to lifelong learning and the power of education.”
“I gained a deeper appreciation of the IB framework, seeing how it connects to real life and research,” said Oliver Ryan Ramos of the Philippines. “I shared this journey with my students to inspire them to keep going despite challenges.”
Eligible applicants for this scholarship opportunity include both IB and non-IB teachers, as well as undergraduate students seeking to pursue an M.Ed. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to education, their local communities, and the IB’s mission and pedagogy.
These scholarships aim to address global challenges in recruiting and retaining experienced, knowledgeable educators, while supporting teachers in expanding their expertise and advancing their professional careers. Recipients are selected based on their potential to contribute meaningfully to the profession and their dedication to lifelong learning.
Applications for the IB UoPeople Scholarship are open from 4 May to 24 May 2026. Read more information on eligibility and how to apply here.
