Drawing on recent data, the report examines IB growth, student outcomes, post-secondary pathways, and the distinctive multilingual landscape of IB World Schools in Canada.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Canada is home to 383 IB World Schools, the majority of which (78%) are public. Together, they serve an estimated 331,530 students nationwide.
  • 41% of Canadian IB World Schools offer instruction primarily in French, nearly twice the national rate. Many also offer bilingual or French Immersion programmes.
  • In 2024, nearly 2,000 Canadian students were awarded the Middle Years Programme (MYP) certificate. Canada also has the most students taking the MYP eAssessment and has the second largest number of MYP students worldwide. Additionally, more than 4,200 Diploma Programme (DP) students across Canada were awarded the IB diploma in 2024.
  • Last year, Canadian IB students sent nearly 8,500 transcripts to 440 post-secondary institutions across Canada, with the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia emerging as top destinations.
  • Recent research from the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia shows that DP students outperformed both French Immersion and local curricula peers. DP students more frequently enrolled in STEM fields, earned higher grades, had lower dropout rates, and achieved higher graduation rates.
