My journey with the IB Educator Network (IBEN) began with a passion for the IB philosophy and a desire to impact beyond my classroom. IBEN provided opportunities for professional growth while supporting educators and schools through workshops, consulting, and school visits.

A career transformed

IBEN has reshaped my career, transitioning me from international school teaching to university-level teacher education. As the IB Educator Certificate (IBEC) program coordinator at Namseoul University in South Korea, I prepare future IB educators and support IB programme expansion in Korean public schools, bridging international education with local contexts.

The power of professional development

The most fulfilling part of IBEN is witnessing the impact of professional development. Educators often share how they’ve applied workshop insights. One participant was inspired to create a song with AI to celebrate their learning experience! These moments highlight the lasting influence of IBEN on me.

Expanding skills and perspectives

IBEN has broadened my pedagogical skills, strengthened my facilitation abilities, and deepened my cultural awareness. I have also developed IBEN capabilities such as organization, communication, and critical thinking, making me a more effective mentor and trainer.

A global perspective

Working with educators worldwide has expanded my understanding of how IB principles adapt to different cultural contexts. I’ve learned the importance of balancing local contexts with maintaining IB programme integrity.

Building a community

IBEN is more than a network—it’s a professional family. Collaborating with educators globally fosters innovation and lasting connections. I continue to learn and grow with like-minded peers through LinkedIn groups and regional gatherings.

Mentorship and lifelong learning

Mentorship is central to IBEN. Support from experienced colleagues and continuous peer learning ensures that all members refine their practice and grow together.

Advice for future IBEN members

IBEN is a transformative journey. Start with roles that match your strengths and expand gradually. Stay open to learning, seek guidance, and embrace a growth mindset.

Bridging philosophy with diverse educational landscapes

IBEN is crucial in expanding IB programs by supporting schools through professional development, school visits, and authorization processes. We bridge IB philosophy with diverse educational landscapes, ensuring quality while fostering innovation.

Looking back, I believe IBEN has been one of my most rewarding career experiences. If you’re considering joining, leap—you’ll gain invaluable skills, meaningful connections, and a renewed passion for education.
