The International Baccalaureate (IB) will implement important changes to the upcoming November 2024 examination session. These proactive procedures will be reassuring to the IB community and illustrate its commitment to fair assessment.

  • First, there will be a minimum supervision period. For all exams, a minimum supervision period of two hours will be required. Therefore, if a student has a single exam scheduled for one hour, they must still be supervised for a minimum of two hours. Whether it's in the exam venue or another dedicated supervision space in the school, these supervision periods will help maintain academic integrity.
  • The IB will also adjust start times. To minimise the potential for time zone-related cheating, there will be adjustments to the start times for exams in certain schools. This change will prevent students taking exams in earlier time zones from sharing topics ahead of later time zones.
  • Finally, schools are now required to clear the memories of all calculators. While the IB encourages the use of technology like Graphical Display Calculators, schools will be required to clear the devices’ memory at the end of each exam. This new practice will allow schools to reevaluate their internal rules on using calculators in exams.

The IB strives to ensure fair outcomes for all students in recognition of their hard work throughout the year and through completion of their IB diploma.
