The IB’s Career-related Programme (CP) has been officially recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) International Committee as proof of high school graduation for international student-athletes effective immediately. This recognition opens new opportunities for CP student-athletes to join higher education in the United States.
Chris Solly, Managing Director, World Academy of Sport, noted: “We are delighted with the news that the NCAA now recognises the CP on its list of programmes thereby opening additional career opportunities for student-athletes. As a CRS provider, the World Academy of Sport (WAoS) has greatly valued the collaboration with the IB ever since it piloted the CP over a decade ago.
“This news is especially exciting for students who wish to study our Career-related Studies (CRS) International Sport Management across IB World Schools as it opens many pathways to the US Collegiate system including those student-athletes who are extending their CP studies through our network of AFEC schools. Our mission is to provide choices for students who have traditionally had to make sacrifices when pursuing sporting dreams. This announcement adds to the growing collective of like-minded organisations aiming to enhance learning pathway opportunities for student-athletes.”
Jo Crowther, IB Coordinator, APEX2100, said: “The Career-related Programme is a great fit for our ski racers who need to compete and train around the globe without compromising on their academic progress. The blended approach which the CP offers allows our students to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement alongside the demands of being a high-performance athlete. We are delighted that the NCAA has recognized the CP and this announcement provides a valuable pathway for our athletes wishing to join higher education in the US.”
The CP is an innovative blend of academic study and career skills that incorporates the vision and educational principles of the IB into a unique programme specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career related learning. The CP’s three-part framework comprises the study of at least two Diploma Programme (DP) courses alongside the distinctive CP core and a career-related study. CP students engage with a rigorous study programme that genuinely interests them, while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement.
