María Saladino Straub completed the IB Diploma Programme at St. George’s College in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2015. Straub is currently studying psychology at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA).
I finished the Diploma Programme (DP) in 2015, and I am still happy with my decision. My school offered a variety of courses that allowed me to study what really interested me.
I am currently studying psychology at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), and now I see the big difference that the teachers were talking about. I attribute my ease in writing practical exercises and my ability to study in an organized way to the challenges presented by the IB while I was studying the Diploma Programme.
The number of texts that they assigned to me for reading at university is staggering. During one of my first days at university, I remembered my history professor because of the vast amount of texts that we had to read. Today, it doesn’t seem like that to me much compared to the academic workload I had on the DP.
I definitely enjoyed all of the courses because they broadened my knowledge and gave me tools and experiences that I don’t think other international programmes would have given me.

The work for creativity, activity & service (CAS), the field work and researching sources of information and my interests for the extended essay made the DP enjoyable for me. I was able to learn more about myself as a person, learning what I like and what interests me, how to manage my time and how to take responsibility for my decisions.
I regret not having studied a language in addition to Spanish and English. Beyond that, I am happy about the subjects that I chose. The teachers who taught the subjects were very well prepared, which was very helpful when we were stressed when preparing the extended essay.
Finally, I’ll offer the following advice to those who are currently studying or thinking about studying the DP: give it your best. It really does help and is a foundation for every professional career. It definitely opens a lot of doors, makes you independent and helps you discover yourself during the final years of secondary school.
