IB school co-founder helps India’s blind

Meet Nita Ambani, the woman behind India’s first and biggest international Braille newspaper, and co-founder of the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, one of the first schools in India to offer an IB programme. Nita is also the founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation, the biggest Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in India.

The indiatimes.com describes how her foundation has helped Project Drishti—the largest corneal grafting surgery project by a single corporate in India—which has “restored sight to over 14,500 Indians, free of cost, across 16 cities”.

But this is not enough for Nita, who is passionate about helping the blind to stay informed about their city, nation and world through means other than radio, TV or a patient voice to explain the news. Nita has now launched “Reliance Drishti”, the first free registered Braille newspaper in Hindi. This is set to reach around 20,000 readers across 300 institutes.
