Dr Sijbolt Noorda is currently president of the Magna Charta Observatory, Bologna and President of the Academic Cooperation Association, Brussels. Until 2013 he was President of the Association of Dutch Universities and until 2006 President of the University of Amsterdam. He is a graduate of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Universiteit Utrecht and Union Theological Seminary/Columbia University New York.
He also served and serves on various boards of institutions for higher education, health care, public broadcasting and publishing, performing arts and culture, ICT services and facilities, university quality assessment and strategic development.
In addition, Dr Noorda is the editor-in-chief of Th&ma, a Flemish-Dutch journal for leadership in Higher Education. In Germany he is a member of the Akkreditierungsrat. He is a senior expert and team chair in various European evaluation and assessment programs (like IEP and HRK Internationalization Audit).
Dr Noorda also writes and lectures on teaching and learning in higher education, about ideals and practices of internationalization, on open science, core values and on governance issues in higher education institutions. He regularly reviews individual universities and national systems.
