Dr Luis Rey Goñi

Luis Rey Goñi has worked with the International Baccalaureate® (IB) for more than ten years, first as a member of the Regional Heads Representative Committee for Africa, Europe, Middle East (AEM).

He held this post from 2000 to 2004 and joined the AEM Regional Council in 2009, the same year he was a co-organizer of the IB World Heads Conference.

Luis is Director of Colegio de San Francisco de Paula, in Seville, Spain – a post he has held since 1997.

He was awarded two doctorates cum laude, in 1996 and 1998, from Università di Bologna and Universidad de Sevilla. Both were in chemistry, building on a degree in chemistry from Universidad de Sevilla.

Luis also holds a master’s degree from the ACADE in Madrid, in school direction and management. In 2011, he completed the Graduated Studies Program at Singularity University; he participated in Harvard University’s Future of Learning Institute programme in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

He has held many advisory and volunteer positions, most recently as Producer of the Singularity Summit Spain. The summit will take place in 2015.

In 2012, Luis became the First Vice-Chair of the Fundacion Goñi y Rey, based in Seville, and has been a member of the Seville Cultural City Council since 2006.

He was a member of the Provincial Board of the Spanish Association against Cancer from 2009-2013.

Luis has published many articles; he has received several honours and awards. In 2006, he received the Seville Young Businessman Award; he was awarded the Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella Della Solidarietà Italiana in 2010 and the Chevalier dans l’Orde des Palmes Académiques de France in 2003.

He lives in Seville, Spain.
