Summative assessments in a multilingual context

The IB conducted a research study to explore whether the assessment method of comparative judgement could be used bilingually to compare literary essays across different languages (English and Spanish). It was concluded that whilst the approach offered some benefits for cross-language standardization, it may not be suitable to implement on a large scale due to potential risks of construct and method bias.

Further research is needed to explore how the method may best support assessment processes and practices in multilingual contexts.
