Joshua McGrane, Yasmine El Masri, Heather Kayton, Robert Woore, & Kit Double – Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment (OUCEA) report for IB.

The IB offers most of its high-stakes exams in multiple languages and follows rigorous translation practices to ensure fairness and equal demand across the language variants. However, differences in student achievement across language variants of the same examination do occur. In this study, the Oxford University team investigated the extent to which these differences could be traced to the translation or linguistic characteristics of the exams. Using advanced psychometric techniques, natural language processing analysis and an expert review of the translation, this study confirms the high quality of IB translation processes.
