A permission contract, known as a license, is required to reprint or reproduce material from International Baccalaureate publications.
If you wish to submit a permission request, please read the following guidelines and the licensing policies carefully. For further questions, please review our list of frequently asked questions below.
Upon receipt of your form the IB will consider your request. The IB will then respond to you either requesting further information, rejecting the request or communicating the quotation of the potential license.
Please be aware that we charge fees for the use of International Baccalaureate content. The fees are based on your work’s print run, sales price, and many other factors. You will not be obligated to pay the fee if you choose not to use the selection and cancel your license.
Frequent follow-up queries and the omission of information in your Permission Request Form will delay the processing of your request. Please ensure that all pertinent information is included in the form.
Permission has not been granted until a countersigned contract from an International Baccalaureate representative is received by the requestor.
To apply for a license please fill out the IB Permission Request Form.
FAQs
How do I apply for permission?
Please submit a request once the specific material is selected and all usage details are known. Include a copy of the requested material showing the use in context.
Can I use IB material for professional development services, products, or workshops?
No. The International Baccalaureate does not allow IB material to be used for the creation and/or the delivery of professional development services, products or workshops. Non-compliance with this requirement would constitute a material breach, causing any existing license agreement to be terminated.
Can permission be granted for all languages and all editions for future use?
No. The International Baccalaureate cannot grant blanket permissions covering all languages or unspecified formats for possible future publication. Our policy is to grant for each edition and language separately. All-inclusive grants covering every language and edition are not permitted. Please fill out a separate request for each edition and each language desired and make sure all the formats required are listed on your request.
How do I provide the “print run” for eBooks or print-on-demand?
We understand that there is no “print run” for eBooks or print-on-demand. Please provide the number of copies you would like covered under contract for each format, listed separately. If sales exceed the stated limits, additional permission for an additional print run will be required.
If the publication date/sales price/print run/length isn’t known yet, what do I put in that field?
In order for the International Baccalaureate to grant permission all publication details must be provided. If a firm publication date, price, print run or page length is not known, please provide a best estimate or apply at a later date.
What happens after the request is submitted?
Your request will be reviewed by the Licensing team to insure all necessary information has been submitted. You will be contacted if additional information is required. Please follow up only if you have not received a contract within 8 weeks of original submission.
If you have not heard back from us or received a license, do not assume that permission is granted. Permission is granted only when a formal countersigned license is received by the requester.
When and how is the license received?
The International Baccalaureate drafts and sends its own license and cannot use other submitted forms. Please expect to receive your license once the fee has been determined. If the license must show a specific address for payment to be processed by your publisher, please indicate this on your request.
