Earn teacher credits

Last updated:

In collaboration with Kent State University, we offer IB Examiners who meet certain criteria an excellent opportunity to gain US teacher credit hours for work completed as an examiner.

IBEN Graduate credit opportunity

As a perk of IBEN membership, we have developed a partnership with Kent State University. All confirmed IBEN members have an opportunity to gain graduate credit hours! This opportunity offers graduate credit to IBEN members who complete IB assessment marking, are certified for a new IBEN role, complete IBEN events, or attend IBEN webinars.  Please note that this is NOT a class but a credit opportunity for prior IBEN engagements.

What Can You Do with These Credits?

These university credits can support your professional and academic development in several ways:

  • Continuing Education: Fulfill professional development or continuing education requirements set by your local or national education authority.
  • Graduate Programs: Potentially transfer the credits into a master's or other graduate-level program (check with your institution for transfer policies).
  • CV/Resume Enhancement: Showcase official graduate-level credit to highlight your experience with student assessment and IB curriculum.
  • International Recognition: Gain U.S. university credit that may carry value in international teaching applications or future professional opportunities.
  • Promotion or Pay Scale Advancement: In some countries or schools, university credits can support applications for promotions, pay raises, or licensing renewal.

Note: It is your responsibility to confirm whether and how these credits will be recognized or transferred to your country or institution.

Assignments can be submitted in English, Spanish, or French.

Examiner credits:

IB examiners who complete training and marking can earn 2 or 3 credits by submitting essays responding to specific prompts about assessment practices and examiner training:

Please see website for deadlines details.

IBEN certification credits:

Members confirmed in new IBEN roles within the past year can earn 2 or 3 credits by writing essays reflecting on three relevant IBEN capabilities related to their certified role.

Completion of IBEN event credits:

Credits are available for completing IBEN events in various school-facing roles by submitting a 3-4 page essay addressing prompts about leadership, engagement strategies, challenges, feedback incorporation, and personal learning.

Webinar attendance credits:

Attending two IBEN webinars and submitting one reflective essay per webinar, approximately 3 pages each, allows earning 1 credit. Essays should discuss the webinar’s relevance, impact on understanding, and inspired actions.
