Consultants engage with the school leadership team and relevant members of the school community. They serve as the school’s day-to-day point of contact.

The consultant acts as an advisor to support the school as it prepares to submit its application for authorization. Consultants also support schools as they plan for ongoing development and improvement after authorization as an IB World School.

Benefits of becoming a Consultant

  • Play an integral role in the IB programme authorization process.
  • Harness your IB experience to support other schools in their journey towards becoming an IB World School.
  • Deepen your understanding of IB programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the school to develop a baseline understanding of the school and its context, including the external and internal factors that could impact its ability to implement an IB programme.
  • Participate in the evaluation visit.
  • Facilitate the creation of and analyze the information submitted in the Application for candidacy and the content of the Report on the Application for candidacy.
  • Serve as a link between the school and the IB.
  • Conduct a two-day consultation visit at dates agreeable to the school and confirmed in advance with the IB.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to the school during the candidacy phase to a total of 20 hours of remote support each candidacy year.

Requirements

Consultants must have experience working in multiple IB World Schools with more than one IB programme. They must have a minimum of five years of leadership experience, having worked as a head of school, year-level coordinator, head of department or similar positions.

Additionally, consultants must demonstrate overall maturity when dealing with challenging issues related to managing people and communication, motivating others to engage with change. They must understand how various IB requirements can be implemented and contextualized to different school settings and cultures.

In alignment with the IB Academic Honesty Policy, all work and information submitted by applicants during either the application process or training needs to comply with the following statement: Applicants need to be aware that the IB does not regard any work produced—even only in part— by such tools to be their own. Therefore, as with any quote or material from another source, it must be clear that any AI-generated text, image or graph included in a piece of work has been copied from such software. The software must be credited in the body of the text and appropriately referenced in the bibliography. If this is not done, the applicant (training participant) would be misrepresenting content—as it was not originally written by them—which is a form of academic misconduct.
