IB Diploma Programme courses online are formally assessed in the same way as courses undertaken face-to-face.
Online students complete the same internal and external assessments and take the same written examinations in Year 2 as students taking face-to-face courses at a corresponding IB World School.
Assessment is criterion-related, which means student performance is measured against pre-specified assessment criteria based on the assessment objectives of each subject curriculum, rather than the performance of other students taking the same examinations. These examinations are marked by external IB examiners.
The marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest). The range of scores that students have attained remains statistically stable, and universities value the rigour and consistency of Diploma Programme assessment practice.
