Artwork makes IB learner profile personally meaningful

Tamara Doleman, a Diploma Programme (DP) visual arts teacher at Ashbury College in Ottawa, Canada, asked her students to create a piece of art with the IB learner profile attributes that they identify with the most.

Tamara was very impressed by how her students took the challenge to a whole new level. To kick off the project they went outside of the classroom to take pictures that represented the IB learner profile attributes and then shared them in class. After each student had identified two or three attributes that were most valuable to them, the artwork activity began.

“Working to visualize these characteristics in ourselves allowed the students to own these characteristics and heighten their curiosity in themselves, in me and in each other, as well as celebrate the differences and identify how these traits can vary in how they are expressed", Tamara says.
