Fees for candidate schools
During the authorization process, schools will pay an application fee when they submit their application for candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School. They also pay a fee during each year they remain a candidate school.
The fees below apply only to schools that are candidates to become authorized as an IB World School. If you are interested in the fees associated with being an authorized IB World School, please see our outline of fees for authorized schools.
Application for candidacy fee
The tables below outline the fee for the review and processing of the application for candidacy. The fee also provides resource for the IB to give guidance on programme implementation during the candidacy phase.
When applying for candidacy, schools are assigned a currency by the IB. All subsequent payments are made in that currency.
Fees for the PYP, MYP and DP
Any school applying to implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) or Diploma Programme (DP) must pay this fee before the submission deadline for the application for candidacy. This fee is non-refundable.
The application for candidacy fees for the PYP, MYP and DP are outlined below:
Fees for the CP
The fees for the Career-related Programme vary based upon whether the school is already authorized (or seeking authorization) for the Diploma Programme or not. The CP authorization process for schools already offering or seeking authorization for the DP is streamlined, as it leverages the work done and information gathered during the school’s DP authorization process, and the fees vary accordingly.
Schools seeking to offer the CP that are already authorized or are seeking authorization for the DP
Schools seeking to be authorized to offer the CP that are already authorized or are seeking authorization for the DP are charged a one-time pre-authorization fee that must be paid before the submission deadline for the application for candidacy. This fee is non-refundable.
As with the application for candidacy fee for the other programmes, the pre-authorization fee covers the review and processing of the application for candidacy and supporting documents. The pre-authorization fee also covers the costs of 10 hours remote consultancy during candidacy, the review and processing of the application for authorization and supporting documents, a verification visit, and the final authorization of the school, as well as the school’s access to the Programme Resource Center, coordinator notes and programme updates published by the IB, and the support of the development and authorization departments.
The pre-authorization fees for schools seeking to be authorized to offer the CP that are already authorized or are seeking authorization for the DP are outlined below:
Schools seeking to offer the CP that do not currently offer the DP
Schools seeking to be authorized to offer the CP that do not already have an authorized DP programme must pay an application for candidacy fee before the submission deadline for the application for candidacy. This fee is non refundable.
Please note: The application for candidacy fee for schools seeking to offer the CP that do not currently offer the DP is waived up to and including 30 June 2018.
Once a school has been awarded candidacy, a non-refundable candidate fee is charged to the school each year until the school is authorised. The time period for candidacy is typically two to three years, and you can find out more about the timeline here.
The candidate fee covers the cost of assessing and processing the application for authorization, 20 hours of remote consultancy per year, and both a two-day consultation visit and a two-day verification visit. These visits take place on site at the school.
In addition, the fees allow a school access to the IB's Programme Resource Center, as well as coordinator notes and programme updates published by the IB. It also provides resource for the development and authorization departments to provide guidance to the school.
Candidate fees may not cover the cost of accommodation for consultants and verification visitors. Please consult your Programme Relationship Manager for further details.
Please note: As indicated above, schools seeking to offer the CP that are already authorized or are seeking authorization for the DP do not pay candidate fees.
The current candidate fees for schools seeking to offer the PYP, MYP, DP, or CP (in schools which do not already have an authorized DP programme) are outlined below:
