Sustainability

Last updated:

At the IB, sustainability is a primary goal. We acknowledge the pressing need to tackle the climate crisis and are proactively implementing measures to minimize our ecological footprint. Here's how we're incorporating sustainable practices at the conference.

Green conference venue

The Colorado Convention Center is a LEED Gold and ISO 14001 certified venue. It helps reduce its environmental impact through a rooftop solar array that generates clean energy, LED lighting, low-flow toilets and water saving landscaping. Find out more here.

Eco-friendly transportation

The venue is easy to reach by public transport, with a light rail station on-site. Many hotels are within walking distance and bike racks are available at every entrance. Visit this page for more details on taking public transport.

Waste management

The Colorado Convention Center has a comprehensive waste reduction policy. Foam core signage, non-recyclable materials, single-use plastic bags and plastic conference bags are not permitted. Colour-coded waste stations make it easy to sort recycling, compost and landfill correctly, helping to reduce contamination and improve diversion rates.

Sustainable printing and production

We’re reducing paper use by adopting digital solutions such as a mobile app, online registration and an event website. Reusable structures and recyclable substrates are used for signage and banners.

All items included in IB welcome bags are made from recycled materials and designed for reusability.

Sustainable catering

Conference meals will use local and sustainable ingredients where possible. All packaging and service ware will be recyclable or compostable, and food waste will be minimized and donated when possible.

Community engagement

The IB is committed to supporting the local community beyond the conference. We will work with local schools to donate leftover stationery and materials, ensuring that surplus resources are put to good use.

Education and awareness

Education is key to building a sustainable future. We encourage you to attend breakout sessions that focus on sustainability concepts and practices to enhance your understanding and inspire action.

Do your part!

We invite all attendees of the IB Global Conference, Denver 2026, to actively participate in our sustainability initiatives

  1. Take public transport or cycle to reduce carbon emissions
  2. Use the conference app instead of printing the programme
  3. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill them at the water filling stations throughout the venue
  4. Eat mindfully—take only what you can finish
  5. Sort your waste into the designated bins

Small actions collectively make a big impact. Together, we can create a more sustainable future and inspire others to do the same!
