Fees for candidate schools

Schools seeking authorization to offer one or more IB programmes pay fees during the authorization process. These fees cover the various aspects of the authorization process, including support from IB personnel, reports, and visits to the school. When applying for candidacy, schools are assigned a currency by the IB. All subsequent payments must be made in that currency. All fees are non-refundable.

The information below applies only to schools that are seeking authorization to become an IB World School. For more information on the fees associated with being an authorized IB World School, please see the outline of fees for authorized schools

Fees for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP)*

Application for candidacy fee

Any school applying to implement the PYP, MYP, DP or CP*, must pay the application for candidacy fee before the school submits the Application for candidacy.

Standalone early childcare centres seeking to offer the PYP are eligible for a reduced application for candidacy fee. To be eligible, these centres must enrol only pre-primary students. Centres attached to a primary school are not eligible for these fees.

This fee covers the processing, review, and report on the Application for candidacy, and contributes to the costs of direct support from staff in the IB’s authorization and development departments.

The application for candidacy fee is non-refundable.

The application for candidacy fees are outlined below:

Schools in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East will be assigned a currency by the IB. All subsequent payments are made in that currency. The application for candidacy fees are:

In the Americas, all schools pay the IB in US dollars, the application for candidacy fee is USD 4,000.

Candidate fees

Once a school has been awarded candidacy, a candidacy and consultation services fee will be charged to the school on the first of the month following the granting of candidacy. This fee will be billed yearly until the school notifies the IB it would like to apply for authorization.

Standalone early childcare centres (as defined above) seeking to offer the PYP are eligible for reduced candidacy fees.

The candidacy and consultation services fee covers the cost of an IB consultant, 20 remote hours of consultation support per year, one 2-day consultation visit per candidacy, a consultant visit report, an end of consultancy report, access to the IB's Programme Resource Centre, and direct support from the authorization department via the school’s programme relationship manager.

The candidacy and consultation services fee is non-refundable.

Once a school notifies the IB that it would like to apply for authorization, a candidacy and application for authorization services fee will be charged to the school on the first of the month following this request. The candidacy and application for authorization services fee will be billed yearly until the school is authorized. The candidacy and consultation services fee will no longer be charged.

This fee covers the cost of processing, reviewing, and reporting on the application for authorization, one 2-day verification visit per candidacy, a verification visit report, final authorization of the school, access to the IB's Programme Resource Centre, and direct support from the authorization department via the school’s programme relationship manager.

The candidacy and application for authorization services fee is non-refundable.

Fees for the PYP, MYP, and DP, when the school is not already authorized for the CP

The candidate fees are outlined below:

In the Americas, all schools pay the IB in US dollars, the candidate fee is USD 9,500. The candidate fees for standalone centres is USD 5,000.

Fees for the CP, when the school is not already authorized for the DP

The candidate fees are outlined below:

Please note:  In Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, candidate services do not cover the cost of accommodation for consultants and verification visitors (if required).

Schools pursuing authorization in these situations pay a one-time pre-authorization fee, which must be paid before the Application for candidacy is submitted.

The pre-authorization fee covers the cost of processing, reviewing and reporting on the applications for candidacy and authorization, 20 hours remote consultancy, one 2-day consultancy visit per candidacy, a consultant visit report, an end of consultancy report, one 2-day verification per candidacy, final authorization of the school, access to the IB’s Programme Resource Centre once candidacy has been granted, and direct support from staff in the IB’s development and authorization departments.

For schools applying for candidacy on or before 1 August 2022 for the CP, when the school is already authorized for the DP, the pre-authorization fee covers the cost of processing, reviewing and reporting on the applications for candidacy and authorization, 10 hours remote consultancy, an end of consultancy report, one 1-day verification visit per candidacy, final authorization of the school, access to the IB’s Programme Resource Centre once candidacy has been granted, and direct support from staff in the IB’s development and authorization departments.

For schools seeking authorization to add the CP to an already authorized DP, this fee also covers two online workshop registrations to be used during the school’s candidacy period.

The pre-authorization fee covers up to 3 years of candidacy. Should the school’s candidacy extend beyond three years, the school will be billed candidate fees as charged to schools seeking authorization for the PYP, MYP, DP, when the school is not already authorized for the CP, or CP, when the school is not already authorized for the DP, described above, beginning in the 4th year of candidacy and billed yearly until their candidacy ends.
