Fees for candidate schools
During the authorization process, schools will pay an application fee when they submit their application for candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School. They also pay a fee during each year they remain a candidate school.
The fees below apply only to schools that are candidates to become authorized as an IB World School. If you are interested in the fees associated with being an authorized IB World School, please see our outline of fees for authorized schools.
Application for candidacy fee
The tables below outline the fee for the review and processing of the application for candidacy. The fee also provides resource for the IB to give guidance on programme implementation during the candidacy phase.
Fees for the PYP, MYP and DP
Any school applying to implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) or Diploma Programme (DP) must pay this fee before the submission deadline for the application.
Fees for the CP
For the Career-related Programme (CP), fees are slightly different. The fee a school pays depends on whether the school already offers the Diploma Programme (DP).
Schools already offering the DP
Schools already offering the DP are charged a pre-authorization fee when applying but do not pay an annual candidate fee in the subsequent years until authorization.
This fee for the CP is outlined in the table below. As with the fee for the PYP, MYP and DP, it covers the review and processing of the application and supporting documents.
The fee also covers the costs of the services provided by a verification visit.
Schools wishing to offer the CP that do not currently offer the DP
Deadlines and late fees
Across all three IB regions, there are two submission deadlines for the application: 1 April and 1 October.
Annual candidate fee
The non-refundable annual candidate fee is charged to the school for every year of candidacy until the school is authorised. The time period for candidacy is typically two to three years.
As noted in the previous section, a school that wishes to offer the CP but does not offer the DP will pay an annual candidate fee.
As well as covering the cost of assessing and processing the application, this fee pays for 20 hours of remote consultancy per year and both a two-day consultation visit and a two-day verification visit. These visits take place on site at the school.
In addition, the fees allow a school access to the IB's online curriculum centre (OCC), the coordinator notes and programme updates published by the IB. Further, the fee provides resource for the regional office and IB-approved consultants to provide guidance to the school.
The fee does not cover the cost of accommodation for individuals visiting the school during the year.

Deadline for payment of the annual candidate fee
The deadline for payment of the fees will depend on when a school's academic year begins and ends.
