The International Baccalaureate (IB) is deeply committed to protecting our planet. In 2022, our Board of Governors and Executive Team designated net zero by 2050 as one of three pivotal goals in our organizational strategy. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint and fostering a sustainable future through collaboration with our partners, exhibitors and attendees.
Our sustainability goals
- Net zero by 2050: the IB Global Conferences team aims to deliver net zero events by 2050, educate attendees on sustainability and measure environmental impacts.
- Local and eco-certified sourcing: we aim to prioritize local food sourcing and use eco-certified materials, such as FSC and PEFC-certified paper.
- Waste management: we aim to reduce waste, in particular, paper and switch to the use of reusable materials.
Sustainable practices at the IB Global Conference, New Orleans 2025
Recycling
New Orleans Marriott ‘s bartenders and staff recycle used glass bottles through Glass Half Full, which grinds the glass into sand for use in wetland erosion control. The venue is equipped with recycling bins and sorting bins throughout the property to encourage and facilitate guests with recycling.
Energy efficiency
The venue’s new energy-efficient HVAC system is estimated to reduce power consumption by 40%. It has also installed energy-efficient, double-insulated glass windows that minimize glare and lower room temperatures, effectively reducing energy consumption.
Reducing Single-Use Plastics
To reduce single-use plastics, ceramic cups and Starbucks recyclable cups made from post-consumer paper will be used for coffee breaks. Please use the water bottles given in your giveaway bag to refill from the water stations.
By implementing these initiatives, we aim to enhance our sustainability efforts and contribute positively to the local community and environment.
