At the IB, sustainability is a primary goal. We acknowledge the pressing need to tackle the climate crisis and are proactively implementing measures to minimize our ecological footprint. Here’s how we’re incorporating sustainable practices at the conference.
Green conference venue
HUNGEXPO is fully committed to reducing its environmental footprint and is actively pursuing ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. The venue focuses on efficient energy management, improved waste sorting and contributing to the local communities. Find out more here.

Waste management
HUNGEXPO follows a rigorous waste management program with a focus on reducing, reusing, and recycling. Selective waste islands will be placed throughout the event to encourage responsible disposal. All waste generated will be carefully collected and recycled in accordance with best practices.
Sustainable printing and production
To align with our sustainability goals, we aim to reduce paper usage at the conference. We’ve adopted digital solutions, including a mobile app, online registration and an event website to minimize the need for printed materials.
All giveaway items in IB welcome bags are made with recyclable materials and designed for reusability. Attendees are encouraged to recycle their lanyards at the end of the conference by dropping them in the designated boxes near the registration area.
Sustainable catering
At HUNGEXPO, reusable or biodegradable cutlery is provided in place of plastic and all packaging is recyclable. Water stations are available for refilling bottles and single-use cups are not provided. The catering team prioritizes local suppliers, selecting fresh, chemical-free and seasonal ingredients to minimize the carbon footprint associated with food logistics. All meals are prepared on-site using energy-efficient technology and any leftover food is donated to local charities, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
Community engagement
The IB is committed to supporting the local community beyond the conference. We will work with HUNGEXPO to donate leftover food, stationery and materials to the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta, ensuring that surplus resources are put to good use.
Education and awareness
Education is key to building a sustainable future. We encourage you to attend breakout sessions that focus on sustainability concepts and practices to enhance your understanding and inspire action.

Do your part!
We invite all attendees of the IB Global Conference, Budapest 2024, to actively participate in our sustainability initiatives:
- Use public transport to travel to the conference venue to help reduce carbon emissions.
- Check the conference mobile app for schedules instead of printing out the programme to reduce paper waste.
- Bring your own reusable water bottle or use the water bottle provided in your delegate bag to refill at water stations around the venue.
- Eat mindfully and take only what you can consume during meals to reduce food waste. Enjoy meals served with reusable or biodegradable cutlery and packaging.
- Follow the venue’s waste management guidelines and dispose of your waste properly in the designated bins.
Small actions collectively make a big impact. Together, we can create a more sustainable future and inspire others to do the same!
