Profiling of IB and Non IB Applicants

This section of the report looks at the demographic variables of IB applicants and Non IB applicants against offers and success in gaining a HE place to identify any differences between them.

A total of 2,259,572 applications were made by non IB applicants. Of these applications, 1,486,824 received an offer through the UCAS mainscheme. 1,261,692 (55.8%) applications received a conditional offer and 225,132 (10.0%) applications received an unconditional offer. Of the 517,556 applicants making an application, 77.7% (402,117 applicants) successfully gained a HE place.

Considering offers received, applications from applicants with the IB were more successful, with 70.3% of applications receiving offers compared to 65.8% of non IB applications. In terms of gaining a HE place, Non IB applicants were more successful with 77.7% of applicants accepted compared to 70.7% of IB applicants.

It should be noted that due to data covering the totality of applicants to full time undergraduate courses in the UK, there is a considerable difference in the population sizes between IB and non IB applicants.
