About the universities—Murdoch University
Murdoch University is currently running two courses of study that have been recognized by the IB as meeting the requirements of the Level 1 and Level 2 IB teacher awards.
The university’s school of education has developed the Postgraduate Certificate in International Education to enable participants to focus their studies on the IB’s Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme. The Postgraduate Certificate in International Education includes the following course components:
1. Core Unit: International Education: Issues and practices
2. Choice of one of the following electives:
• Issues in Language Education
• Development and Education
• Cultural Diversity in Learning & Working
• Inclusive Education: Contemporary Perspectives and Practices
3. Either of the following core units:
• Professional Development portfolio
(for those working in IB schools or who have undertaken IB workshops) or
• Professional and action learning project (for those new to the field)
Following successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in International Education participants are eligible to register for a Level 1 award.
Additionally the International Baccalaureate Organization has recognized the university’s Masters of Education in International Education. The Masters course of study includes the following components:
1. All of the components included as part of the Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (listed above)
2. Introduction to qualitative and quantitative research
3. Special Research Project
4. One additional elective from the above electives
On successful completion of the Masters of Education in International Education, and having undertaken the stipulated experiential requirement of having taught for five years (three years of which must include continuous teaching in the same IB programme in one IB school), participants are eligible to register for the Level 2 award.
