Breaking News from South Asia

For the first time in the history of the IB and India – Mumbai University, a reputed university in India has agreed to grant provisional admission to IB Diploma students based on their predicted grades.

IBDP schools  issued a letter  to the Eligibility Department of the said university stating  the predicted grades in the subjects that the student had appeared for in the May 2006 Exam Session.

[Note from the Regional office: To maintain the credibility of this process, it is essential that schools have good internal cross moderation processes in place to ensure the accuracy of predicted grades and to guarantee that “predicted grade inflation” does not occur.]

The Eligibility Department  issued a provisional eligibility certificate and the  students applied for college placements in Mumbai in early June. This is the period when admissions are granted in India, as the DP equivalent in India, ie HSC results, are declared in June. The students received their actual DP results in early July and then their admissions were confirmed by the colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

With this tremendous breakthrough, we plan to approach Universities in other cities where we currently have IBDP schools, eg. Bangalore, Delhi, Coimbatore, Indore, Pune, Hyderabad etc in order to obtain similar statements from these universities.

Cheers! IB Asia-Pacific is now a trailblazer.
