Introducing Prof. Sophal Ear...
Sophal Ear, Ph.D., was selected as a TED2009 Fellow for the 25th Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) Conference where he delivered a TED Talk and spoke at the Oslo Freedom Forum 2010.He joined the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School’s Department of National Security Affairs as an Assistant Professor in June 2007.
Prof. Ear received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006, and has three master’s degrees: a Master of Science in Agricultural and Resource Economics, a Master of Arts in Political Science (both from UC Berkeley) and a Master in Public Affairs in Economics and Public Policy from Princeton University.
Introducing K. David Harrison...
David Harrison is a linguist and leading specialist in the study of endangered languages. He has done extensive fieldwork in Siberia, Mongolia, Bolivia, India and Native America. In his recent book, When Languages Die: The Extinction of the World’s Languages and the Erosion of Human Knowledge (Oxford 2007), Harrison provides a vivid picture of the scientific consequences of language loss.
Harrison received his PhD in Linguistics from Yale University in 2000, his MA in Slavic Languages from the Jagiellonian University of Cracow, Poland, and his BA in International Studies from The American University in Washington, DC. He resides in Philadelphia, PA, where he serves as Associate Professor of Linguistics at Swarthmore College.

Erica is an internationally recognised scholar in the field of pedagogy, with a particular focus on workforce preparation of youth in schools and universities. She is well known for her contribution to educational reform and its relationship to 'over the horizon' work futures in the context of the new knowledge economy across the entire spectrum of formal learning environments from early years to doctoral education.
During her career, she has developed a strong reputation as a public speaker on education for living, learning and earning. Her vibrant speaking style and her prolific publication record has enabled her to maintain a strong global profile as an innovator and pedagogical leader.

After receiving his IB diploma in 1998, Matthew earned a bachelor of arts degree in Japanese studies and a bachelor of laws degree at the University of Melbourne, followed by a master of science degree in international law from Jesus College, Oxford University. Matthew’s lifelong dedication to service began in the IB Diploma Programme, when he volunteered at a local school for underprivileged
children.
Two years later, at the age of 20, he co-founded the Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning (SAIL) Program to support the Sudanese refugee community with free tutoring, home help and other services. Today, SAIL serves more than 1,000 people every week across Australia.

Waleed Aly is an Australian lawyer, Muslim, academic and rock musician. He has been a member of the executive committee of the Islamic Council of Victoria and has served as the council's head of public affairs. He is a frequent commentator on Australian Muslim affairs.
Aly was commended in the 2005 Walkley Awards in the category of Commentary, Analysis, Opinion and Critique. Also in 2005 he was made the White Ribbon Day ambassador for the United Nations' international day for the elimination of violence against women and was named one of The Bulletin magazine's 'Smart 100' in 2007.
Introducing Dame Evelyn Glennie...
Evelyn is the first person in musical history to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist. As one of the most eclectic and innovative musicians on the scene today she is constantly redefining the goals and expectations of percussion, creating performances of such vitality they almost constitute a new type of performance.
In 1993 Evelyn was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire). This was extended in 2007 to 'Dame Commander' for her services to music. She was inducted into the PAS (Percussive Arts Society) Hall of Fame in 2008 and to date has received 86 international awards.
