IB graduate profile - Jennifer Lowenstein (née Newberger)

Graduated from San Diego High School, USA, in 1995.

"I graduated with an IB diploma in June 1995 from San Diego High School in San Diego, California, USA. I went on to study Medical and Cultural Anthropology as an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. From 1997-1998 I studied at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. After graduation in 1999 I went on to receive a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a focus on International Public Health.

Currently, I am a Public Health Analyst in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention and the Global AIDS Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. I work on the Business Responds to AIDS/Labour Responds to AIDS Programs as well as the Global AIDS Program Public-Private Partnerships/ Workplace Interventions team. These programs are designed to assist domestic, multinational, and international businesses and labor unions in the design, implementation, and evaluation of workplace programs, as well as to engage business and labor in community outreach and philanthropy in support of HIV prevention.

Since joining CDC in 2000, I have worked in a variety of countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, most notably working with the Botswana Ministry of Health to assist in the development of a peer-counselling curriculum for use in the workplace. I have also worked to facilitate and evaluate educational exchanges and technology transfer between non-governmental organizations in the United States and abroad.

In my free time, I enjoy travelling with my husband David, reading, and getting involved in political and social action."
