Background
The post holder will design, coordinate and undertake research activities to support the development of the IB’s three programmes of international education (PYP, MYP, and DP) and the continuum across the programmes.
The position
The primary responsibilities for the role are:
- developing and coordinating a research agenda for the programme development division in collaboration with the heads of programme development and the head of continuum development
- commissioning and carrying out research that will support curriculum development
- providing advice on research methodology to the heads of programmes and curriculum managers in all three IB programmes and across the full range of academic disciplines.
Within the context of this role, managing research activities requires:
- working closely with the heads of programme development, curriculum managers and academic officers
- planning and carrying out the research needed
- supporting the ongoing curriculum review process
- ensuring that curriculum development is appropriately research based.
The post holder will support curriculum development so that it takes into account current thinking, both in terms of academic content and pedagogical practices. It is essential to maintain ongoing consultation with IB colleagues, schools, universities and other external organisations and agencies. It is equally important to communicate on a regular basis with IB research staff working within other IB core functions to share information about ongoing work and projects.
Key competencies of the ideal candidate
- A masters degree in education or a related field (doctorate preferred)
- Experience in conducting both quantitative and qualitative research
- Strong background in research methods
- Proven management experience
- Excellent communication skills in general, and strong written and oral skills in English
- An ability to work collaboratively
- A high level of computer literacy, with proficiency in the use of data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, NVivo)
The following skills and experience would be an advantage:
- Knowledge and experience of IB programmes and the field of international education
- Experience in managing a departmental research agenda
- Experience in curriculum development
- Strong ability in a second language, preferably French or Spanish
Location
This post will initially be based in Cardiff, UK, but will in the future relocate to a new global centre in the Netherlands.
