History assistant examiners
The history syllabus is divided into two routes:
Route 1 - History of Europe and the Islamic world
The assessment of History route 1 is split into three papers:
Paper 1 is common to both SL and HL candidates and is focussed on one of the prescribed titles below:
- The origins and rise of Islam c500-661
- The kingdom of Sicily 1130-1302
Paper 2 is common to both SL and HL. Paper 3 is an extension paper for HL candidates only.
Route 2 – 20th century world history
The assessment of History route 2 is split into three papers:
Paper 1 is common to both SL and HL candidates and is focussed on one of the prescribed titles below:
- Peacemaking, peacekeeping – international relations 1918-1936
- The Arab-Israeli conflict 1945-1979
- Communism in crisis 1976-1989
Paper 2 is common to both SL and HL. Paper 3 is a regional paper composed of regional options for HL candidates only. If you wish to mark paper 3 please indicate the region for which you wish to be considered:
- Africa
- Americas
- Asia and Oceana
- Europe and the Middle East
