Access Projects Curriculum Specialist

In August 2009, the IB was awarded a grant for a three year project aiming to increase participation and performance of low-income and minority students in the Diploma Programme in the United States. Specifically, through this project, the IB will develop curriculum, professional development, and promotional resources for teachers of grade 9 and 10 (levels 4 and 5 of the MYP) in order to prepare more students for success in the Diploma Programme.
Over the course of the project, the IB will pilot and evaluate these resources with three school districts (a total of 6-9 high schools) in the United States. Materials will be developed for both regional and international use. This project falls under the global school services division and will involve significant collaboration with the programme development, global professional development, and Americas regional divisions. This is a two year position and will be based in Washington, D.C. or New York.
The Access Projects Curriculum Specialist will manage work teams consisting of internal stakeholders, IB practitioners, external partners, and representatives from pilot schools in order to produce curriculum documents. This post will play a significant role in the success of the recently awarded grant and in the potential for receiving additional grants in the future. This post oversees a good portion of the deliverables of this important grant. This post is funded by the Grant and disappears at the end of the Grant; is a two-year position.
The Access Projects Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for:
- Development of teaching guides in four subject areas and
- Development of a series of example assessment tasks,
- Have a significant contribution to the development of linked professional development
- Have a significant contribution to the development of promotional materials.
Requirements:
- Significant teaching experience in the MYP and knowledge of the DP
- IB leadership experience, for example as a coordinator, workshop leader, consultant or site visitor
- Experience in developing curriculum
- Excellent written and oral communication in English
- Familiarity with the context of public schools in the United States
- Highly collaborative, with experience in leading and facilitating teams
- Strong computer skills
- Detail oriented
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to travel up to 20% of his/her working time
- Commitment to IB mission and to increasing access to IB, particularly for under-represented students.
Location
This is a two year position and will be based in Washington, D.C. or New York.
