Quality Assurance

Professional Development

The IB provides professional development to approximately 60,000 educators around the world on an annual basis in a variety of modes, including face-to-face, online, and blended models.  This breadth and depth provides exciting professional development opportunities as the IB is able to expand its range and type of professional development services. It has encouraged innovation and the creation of new models to meet the needs of a diverse group of educators. Such opportunities also present challenges, and in particular is the need to ensure that the quality of IB professional development is not only maintained, but enhanced. The crucial element to the success of all these initiatives is the IB quality assurance framework (QAF) for professional development.

The QAF is based on the workshop goals and objectives outlined in the global workshop architecture.  It is designed to ensure that educators attending IB workshops in any country around the world are having a consistently high quality experience enabling them to successfully implement IB programmes in schools.  The QAF will provide IB the capacity to collect a comprehensive set of data that will measure effectiveness and better understand the most important aspects of our service delivery to schools. It relies on multiple methods of data collection and analysis in order to provide accurate indicators enabling IB to be confident that quality levels are appropriate and consistent, to improve current offerings, and to innovate in areas most important to IB educators.

School Services

The International Baccalaureate continues to experience strong growth across all three of our programmes.  Since 2000, the IB has grown annually by approximately 14% and in 2009 alone, the IB authorized over 400 programmes.  As the IB continues to grow it is imperative to maintain a high level of quality of our programmes while enabling many schools to benefit from the IB experience.  An important component of achieving this goal is to ensure that schools involved in both the authorization and evaluation processes receive high quality and consistent service.  The quality assurance framework is determined by these processes and provides IB the capacity to collect a comprehensive set of data that measures quality and consistency as well as enables the organization to understand the most important aspects of authorization and evaluation. It relies on multiple methods of data collection and analysis in order to provide accurate indicators, enabling the IB to be confident that quality levels are appropriate and consistent, to improve services, and to adapt to school needs.
