David Walker
David Walker has 25 years’ professional experience of advising clients on financial and investment opportunities in a range of sectors worldwide, including forestry, forest products, and the paper and packaging industries. He has worked for global companies and built up a strong network of business relationships in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North and South America. He possesses excellent financial, problem-solving and relationship building skills, in addition to strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
In 2010 he founded Kauri Capital, an independent firm that offers advisory services to industry participants, owners, investors and financiers. The firm operates globally, with a special emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region. He was previously managing director of Macquarie Capital (2007–2010), a leading investment banking organization based in Singapore, providing advice on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt capital raising, and direct investment services. He was responsible for leading a team of professionals in Singapore, Melbourne, Stockholm and New York, focusing on cross-border transactions, particularly Asia–Australia and North America/Europe–Asia.
David Walker worked for 18 years with the Pöyry Group/Pöyry Consulting (1989–2007), latterly as President of their Asia-Pacific business. He built the team from five people in Singapore to a strong regional presence, with the merger of existing businesses in Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and Singapore, and the opening of new offices in China, Japan and India.
He is a graduate of the Victoria University of Wellington (bachelor of commerce and administration with honours, 1985), where he majored in finance and accounting. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA, 1990) and a member of the Singapore and International Society of Financial Analysts.
David Walker is a citizen of New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and a permanent resident of Singapore. He is married with two children (aged 19 and 21). He is bilingual: English and Finnish.
