Katy Ricks


Katy RicksKaty Ricks has enjoyed a distinguished career as an English teacher. She is currently head of Sevenoaks School, a selective school with students from 40 countries. The school has offered the IB curriculum since 1978. There is a thriving sixth form, currently numbering more than 400 students, all of whom are following IB programmes.

Katy was educated at Camden School for Girls. She studied English literature as an undergraduate at Balliol College, Oxford, where she was awarded the Elton Shakespeare Prize. Katy then spent three years at Balliol as a graduate student before joining the staff of St Paul’s Girls’ School in 1985.

Katy has considerable and wide-ranging experience of teaching and motivating young people. She has held posts at King Edward’s School, Birmingham, which is a leading independent boys’ day school in the King Edward’s Foundation, and at Latymer Upper School. In 1992 she was appointed head of English at St Edward’s school, Oxford, where she coordinated sixth form induction and was involved in the planning for full coeducation that began in September 1997. She subsequently joined the staff of Highgate School as deputy head (academic) before taking up her current post.

Katy is married to Dr David Ricks, senior lecturer in Byzantine and modern Greek language and literature at King’s College London.
